UX Case Study · Mobile Site Design · Preventative Mental Health / Music Therapy
OVERVIEW

TheraMusic began as a platform concept for general preventative mental health care, but through research and iteration, it evolved into a music therapy-focused solution. The challenge was to create a website that provided accessible, engaging, and credible music therapy resources for young adults struggling with stress, anxiety, and self-esteem, while reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

  • Conducted competitive analysis of mental health and music therapy platforms
  • Led user interviews and persona development
  • Designed site maps, task flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups
  • Conducted usability testing with 8 participants using Maze
  • Iterated design for clarity, playlist creation, and improved navigation

    OUTCOME

In this project, the focus was on young adults navigating stress, anxiety, and self-esteem challenges, many of whom felt mental health care was stigmatized or inaccessible. The design balanced accessibility and usability with the emotional resonance of music, creating a platform that felt safe, intuitive, and engaging. By reframing mental health resources through the lens of music, TheraMusic demonstrated how preventative care can be approachable, personalized, and stigma-free.

    • Delivered a concept platform that merges music therapy with preventative mental health care.
    • Validated design direction: usability testing showed high task success rates and strong emotional connection to the brand.
    • Proposed a scalable model (freemium) to encourage adoption while keeping care accessible.
    • Addressed both user goals (connection, guidance, relief from anxiety) and business goals (engagement, differentiation in a crowded wellness market).

    REFLECTIONS
This project taught me the importance of pivoting based on insights — shifting from a broad preventative care app to a focused music therapy platform made the solution more impactful. It highlighted the role of empathy, iteration, and research in shaping products that are not only functional, but also deeply meaningful for users
